Why is standardization important?

Europe's domestic market, also known as the "single market," allows free movement and trade in EU member countries.

According to the legal requirements of the single market, the product/service placed in the EU market must meet the requirements of health, safety and the environment.

The most important elements for access to the single market are:

Standards - The standards define technical requirements or requirements for the quality of the product, manufacturing process, services or testing methods. Therefore, standardization is the way an enterprise creates a product and ensures its security and interoperability;

Assessment of conformity - The conformity assessment process verifies that the products to be exported meet all statutory requirements and also whether it is tested, verified and certified.

Accreditation - The purpose of accreditation is to ensure the technical capacity of conformity assessment bodies (laboratories, inspection or certification bodies) to perform their duties.

Market surveillance - Market surveillance ensures that non-food products do not pose a threat to European consumers in the EU market. It also protects other public interests, such as the environment, security and trade equity. Market surveillance can lead to the suspension of improper circulation of products and \ or sanctions for their compliance

CE marking - Mandatory for all products subject to one or more European directives and ensures the free movement of this product to the EU. Placement on the market of products subject to CE marking directives without "CE marking" is not allowed.
